Decorating for the Holidays

Choosing a Colour Scheme

If you are a lover of a traditional Christmas, you probably won't worry too much about a colour scheme for your Christmas decorations.  You will incorporate everything you have & love that has sentiment and the house will look great and will feel special to you.

If on the other hand, you want to compliment your homes decor, you might want to establish a particular colour scheme.
Look around your home & see what colours you already have & choose a scheme that compliments this. If you like a warmer feeling, you might choose colours that are gold, red, burgundy, which are more of the traditional colours. If you have a contemporary home, you might want to choose cooler colours like blue, white & silver. The cooler colours will have a more sleek & sophisticated look.

The main thing is to carry the theme of the decorations throughout the home, you wouldn't do a traditional dining room with the warmer colours & then do the living room in the cooler colours. Try to repeat main decorating colors in each room.  The decorations don't have to be the same, but bring colours from one room to the next. If you have decorations with different colours in them, try to use one of the main colours in one room, another in an adjoining room & so on. You can then also tie the spaces together with decorative ribbons or garland.
The main thing to remember is to have fun with this and at the end of the day, there is no wrong way to decorate your home for the holidays, using the things that you love!
