Claim Your Home Owner's Grant

Property Tax Information – Claim your Home Owner’s Grant

For many first time buyers; you will be receiving your first property tax notices over the next few weeks.  You will note that taxes are due July 5 this year.  The second installment of property taxes in the City of Vancouver is always due the second business day of July.

Many first time buyers will have their lender collecting and remitting property taxes on their behalf, but all homeowners, living in their principal residence; still need to claim the Home Owner’s Grant.  This can be done by filling out the form that is mailed to you and ticking the appropriate box.  You can also follow the instructions on the form you received to claim the Home Owner’s Grant Online.  You will need the folio number and the access code.

Make sure your taxes are paid by July 5, or you will face additional charges.

If you have recently purchased your property and have not received a property tax notice by the end of the second week in June; you should contact your City Property Tax Department or the Notary or Lawyer who did your conveyance and they will be able to provide you with additional information.

The basic grant is available to anyone who lives in the property as their full time principal residence.  You can only have one principal residence.  There is an additional grant available to Seniors.

For more information you can contact the City of Vancouver Property Tax Department; or google search “Property Tax (enter your municipality here)”
